Multiverse Apprenticeships

A case study about how we used scenario-based learning to design transformative apprenticeships

What was the problem?

Multiverse wanted to enhance their apprenticeship programmes so that apprentices developed not just technical knowledge but the workplace and soft skills needed to thrive in real business contexts.

Traditional off-the-job training often focused on knowledge transfer but didn’t provide authentic workplace experiences to develop professional judgement and employability skills.

Multiverse wanted learning experiences that provided immersive, scenario-based training to give apprentices verifiable workplace anecdotes and the confidence to navigate professional situations from day one.

How did we solve it?

We worked closely with Multiverse over to shape authentic workplace scenarios aligned to key skills such as adaptability, problem-solving, communication, and professional judgement.

We built fictional scenarios with characters to provide genuine immersion in realistic business challenges involving data, AI and leadership. The scenarios deliberately incorporated the messy realities of professional practice such as incomplete information, stakeholder expectations, and time constraints.

We also developed comprehensive coach guidance to increase coaches’ confidence, enable rapid onboarding and ensure a consistent delivery experience.

“Ding contributed greatly to our company’s transition from one LMS platform to another, and making our content so much more relevant and engaging. Tony and his team did a great job thinking about different engagement tactics, and we’ve got great feedback from both learners and coaches who deliver this content. I would absolutely recommend the Ding team to work on any learning project.”

Frequently asked questions

"How do you adapt to our way of working?"

We believe in meeting you where you are. We take time to understand your processes and preferred ways of working, then adapt accordingly. Once we know how you and your team operate, we find ways to contribute that feel natural and complementary. We’re happy to use your project management tools, follow your documentation approaches, and work within your established rhythms.

"How do you maintain consistency with our existing learning products and programmes?"

We start by developing a thorough understanding of your educational approach and design patterns. We look carefully at your existing offerings and develop templates and workflows to ensure new developments feel like a natural extension of your current work. We also set regular check-ins with key members of your team to maintain alignment throughout the project.

"What if our technology is quite specific?"

We’ve worked with a broad range of learning platforms and technologies, and also with clients who haven’t finalised a technology stack. Our focus is on creating meaningful learning experiences that work within your technical environment. We collaborate with your technical team to understand your technical capabilities and constraints, and ensure our outputs align with what’s possible. We’re quick learners when it comes to technologies and platforms.

"Can your support flex as our needs change?"

Absolutely. We structure our collaboration to adapt to your changing priorities. We can provide more support during intensive development periods and scale back during quieter times. Many organizations we work with maintain an ongoing relationship that expands and contracts based on their needs, giving them flexible access to additional expertise without the commitment of full-time hires.

"How do you share knowledge with our internal team?"

Knowledge sharing is central to how we work. We document our thinking and approaches thoroughly, explaining the educational reasoning behind design decisions. We hold regular conversations with your team to share insights and can offer informal workshops on specific approaches we’ve implemented. Our aim is to contribute to your team’s growth and capabilities.

"How do you handle confidentiality?"

We take confidentiality very seriously. All work we create belongs to your organization, and we operate under comprehensive confidentiality agreements and NDAs. We understand the sensitive nature of product development and maintain strict privacy regarding your roadmap and business strategy. We’re happy to work within any security requirements you have in place.
