Use questions.
Sounds simple, doesn’t it? But all too often, online learning becomes a passive experience based on the transmission of knowledge.
This will disengage your learners.
Using questions to drive your teaching makes it much harder for your learners to just sit back and switch off. The reason? It’s because questions force us to think about how we connect with the topic under discussion.
Every time you ask a question, you are creating an opportunity for your learners to connect their existing knowledge with your new knowledge. Each question is a bridge that can help them move beyond the comfort of what they already know and into a space where they can begin constructing new knowledge.
The other great thing about using questions? It means that your learners are doing much more learning, and you’re doing much less teaching.
And for online learning to be effective, your learners should be doing most of the work.
